Welcome to Woodland High School, home of the Wildcats. We, the Wildcat Family, are honored that you have chosen WHS for your child’s high school experience. I am blessed to serve as Principal of a school with a staff of highly qualified and dedicated individuals. All employees - custodians, café staff, bus drivers, technology specialist, administrative assistants, nursing assistant, teachers, paraprofessionals, and leadership team – appreciate the vital role they play in your child’s academic career.

Woodland offers challenging academic courses, skillful career pathways, distinguished fine arts programs, and energetic athletic opportunities. Academically, Woodland High School's goal is to provide every single student with the highest quality educational programs. We feel every student needs a solid academic foundation. Our variety of career courses not only provides technical skills to prepare students for postsecondary educational ventures but also offers real world applications to develop students’ critical thinking and problem solving abilities. Woodland's performing arts department strives to be a dynamic leader in the production and development of educational theatre. We passionately connect our students and audiences to accessible and relevant plays. Woodland's athletic program is an integral part of school life. Included are a wide range of sports, and all students who are physically able are encouraged to participate in some form of activity.

The instructors at WHS are dedicated to your child’s educational success. Approximately 70% of the teachers have advanced degrees and/or endorsements. Teachers have a genuine commitment to the education of youth and are actively involved in professional learning opportunities. New knowledge and skills are transferred to the learning environment in order to benefit the students.

Bartow County School System’s commitment statement reads, “Graduation and Beyond…Creating Lifelong Learners.” At Woodland High School, we not only strive to graduate all students but also venture to prepare our pupils for future careers and encourage learning for a lifetime. In addition to teaching rigorous academic standards, we model characteristics essential for success in life.

Woodland High School’s goals for 2012-2013 are:

1.   Increase the graduation rate by 3%.

2.   Increase percentage of students meeting/exceeding on each End-of-Course Test (EOCT) subject test by 3%.

3.   Increase percentage of students in Post High School Readiness indicators (on CCRPI) by 3%. CCRPI is the College and Career Ready Performance Index for school improvement in Georgia.

To meet these goals, we need the support of parents. You are the most important factor in your child’s academic success.

Parents – we are here to assist in any way to ensure academic success for our students. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s advisor, guidance counselor, or administrator if we can help. We invite you to become involved in your child’s education – visit the school, volunteer at the school, attend extracurricular events. We are partners with you in your child’s educational journey.

Thank you for being a member of the Wildcat Family. I am honored to serve you and the Woodland community.

Sincerely,

Dr. Melissa H. Williams
