Teacher of the Year Karlene Boyd

In order to select the Red Top Teacher of the Year, staff members submit written nominations explaining why a teacher should be TOTY. These statements are distributed and then staff members vote to determine the final TOTY.

Mrs. Boyd, 6th grade Math teacher, was selected as this year's teacher of the year. Below you will find the nominations that were submitted for Mrs. Boyd by her peers.

From Allie Ingle: "I would like to nominate Karlene Boyd for the 23-24 TOTY. Mrs. Boyd is a one-of-a-kind teacher. Working with her collaboratively on subcommittees, in her classroom, as a hallmate, and through sports, I have seen her dedication to the profession never waiver only strengthen. Year after year, I watch as her former students and families come racing down the hall at open houses or parent nights or across the field at athletic games to interact with their favorite teacher from years past. She uses accountability, reliability, professional knowledge, and love to get all kids who walk through our doors to reach their highest potential. She is every child's advocate and biggest cheerleader, and we are so very lucky to have her as a Miner!" -Allie Ingle, ELA teacher

"Mrs. Boyd should be Red Top’s teacher of the year. She voluntarily takes the struggling students. She has the best interests of all students as her priority. She makes math relatable to the kids. She does free afterschool tutoring. She gives up her planning to assist other grade level math teachers. She can get the kids to care about their results. She is a collaborating genius. She found a way to keep her students moving in math class. She is willing to go the extra mile for her students. Most of all, she is able to teach students math when no one else can." -Joe Kraft, PE coach and parent of former students
