We need your help. We are almost to our fundraiser goal.

Tier 1 Instruction in Mrs. Blackburn's Kindergarten!

📚 Today in Arts & Letters, we read Last Stop on Market Street and explored our five senses! 👀👂👃👅🖐️

We talked about how one of the characters uses his sense of sight while riding the bus. Then, we created a story map to identify the characters and setting and drew our ideas in our journals. We loved making connections between the story and what we can see, hear, smell, taste, and touch in the world around us! 💛🚌

📚 Mathematics Matters at WES!

Our teachers engaged in vertical collaboration to deepen their understanding of HB 1030: Mathematics Matters and its four strands:

🔹 Real-World Problem Solving
🔹 Procedural Fluency
🔹 Conceptual Understanding
🔹 Productive Dispositions

Teachers researched each strand and worked together to identify how these important mathematical practices are represented in our current Georgia DOE Learning Plan lessons.

Through collaboration, we’re strengthening our shared understanding of effective math instruction and finding ways to help every WES student grow as a mathematician! 💙💛

💙💛 WARRIOR SPOTLIGHT: AVA POPE! 💛💙

We are so proud to celebrate Ava Pope, one of White Elementary School’s outstanding 4th grade students!
Ava has been selected for Cass High School’s Feeder School Student Recognition and will be honored at the Cass High School football game on Sept. 4th! 🏈

Ava’s teacher, Mrs. Martin, shared, “Ava Pope is an all-around AMAZING student. ‘Good’ is never good enough for her—she goes above and beyond and strives for excellence in everything she does. She is a student we can always count on to do the right thing, even when no one is watching. She has a heart of gold and is a friend to all. Ava has quickly become our classroom “Alexa” because of her outstanding listening skills and her willingness to help others."

We are so proud of you, Ava! Thank you for being an amazing student, friend, and Warrior! 🧡

🦋 2nd Grade PBL: Pollinator Protectors! 🐝

After a long summer, our butterfly garden was ready for a little TLC! This week, our second-grade Pollinator Protectors have been hard at work giving the garden some much-needed attention while putting their research and problem-solving skills into action.

Students are using technology to identify the plants growing in our garden and determine which ones are important to keep for our yearlong pollinators—and which ones are weeds that need to go. 🔍

But our Pollinator Protectors know that a successful pollinator garden needs more than just pretty flowers! Students researched when different plants bloom throughout the year so they can help ensure that our pollinators have food and habitat across all four seasons. 🐝🌼🦋

Our students also participated in the Great Southeast Pollinator Census, hosted by the UGA Center for Urban Agriculture, joining a regional effort to observe and learn more about pollinators in our own community.

From garden care to technology, research, and real-world science, our second graders are discovering that even small actions can make a BIG difference for pollinators! 🌎💚
