principal's Message

8/17/21

Dear Wildcat Parents,

We have wrapped up our first full week of school, and we are settling into a routine.  I've shared some important information below!

I am just so happy to see our kids return this year and to welcome our new Wildcats to the building.  Woodland is a special place, and it’s our goal to make your child’s experience here as positive as it can be.

Be sure you know where to get important information from WHS!

Our school’s guiding coalition developed an updated Vision and Mission for WHS, and our school’s Improvement Plan was developed to ensure that we meet our vision.  What excites me most is our LEVEL of commitment.  Our staff is committing to ALL our students graduating on time, having learned the essentials needed to succeed in work, college, and life.  You’ll hear us repeating the phrase, “All means All”, which reflects our commitment to ALL our kids, and ALL students should all believe that they WILL be successful at WHS. Our Mission, Vision, Collective Commitments and School Improvement Plan are available on our website.

We continue to navigate Covid-19, and while we enjoyed a remarkably smooth end to the school year and summer, we are once again confronting the virus.  Please refer to BCSS’s updated communication and contact tracing protocols. Parents, it’s absolutely critical that students stay home when they show signs of illness.  Please do not send students to school with fevers, severe cough, diarrhea, or if they are known to have been directly exposed to Covid at home. Our teachers are committed to helping our sick or quarantined students stay on top of their work while they’re home. Like last year, we encourage our students to wear masks when social distancing is a challenge, and we will maintain touch services and disinfectant fogging practices from last year.

Parking permits must be purchased for a student to drive to school, and students must park in the spot number that corresponds with their pass number.  Starting Monday, August 16th, cars parked without permits or in another student’s spot will be ticketed.

We’ve held class meetings with all grade levels, and each student was made aware of our behavior and conduct expectations.  We also discussed ways to get involved in clubs, sports and other groups.  We will be holding a clubs/activities fair in just a few weeks to give our kids a true sense of how they can get connected.

The football season officially begins this Friday.  We’d love to see a big crowd for our Senior Night!

Please consider signing up for the Backpack Buddies 5K.  The race will be held on August 28th.     Pre-registration is open until 8/22.   Not interested in running or walking,  no problem!   They have a Ghost Runner option that still scores you a t-shirt and supports an amazing cause!  https://runsignup.com/Race/GA/Cartersville/DowntownCartersville5KtosupportBackpackBuddies

Be on the lookout for your child’s health forms that need to be returned to school for our nurse. These important forms allow our school nurse to quickly respond if there is a medical or health concern involving your child.

Picture day is on August 25th.  This is for 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students.  Make-ups will be in September.  Each student will receive a new ID card, once the photographs have been received and processed by our photography company.

I wish to thank all our parents, staff, and our wonderful students for a great start to they year.  Go Wildcats!

Dave Stephenson
