2025-2026 Pine Log Staff

The PLES Birders enjoyed a short break to sketch the Pine Log Chickens as part of observing birds.

First-grade students presented puppet shows based on the series There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed... Students worked in groups to read the book, design and create the puppets using cardstock and wooden skewers, then practiced retelling the story to build fluency. The use of flashlights was a connection to the shadows and light unit for first grade.

To celebrate completing recent testing, Mrs. McGaha shared stickers with third, fourth, and fifth graders.

School Lunch Hero Day! We're sending a big thank you to the amazing lunchroom crew who bring us delicious and nutritious meals and snacks each day. Mr. Mickey goes out of his way to find fresh fruits for our students and staff. Ms. Rhonda, Ms. Brenda, and Ms. Robin greet every student with a smile, serve hundreds of Pine Log friends each day while maintaining a perfect health code score. We are thankful for each you!

During a recent visit to the Learning Log, students read books and shared their great finds with a friend.

Second-grade students are learning block coding in their STEM specials class and recently visited the Learning Log to practice with Marty Robots. One goal was for students to have Marty kick a ball to another robot.

The third-grade soil types garden is in bloom. Thanks to the leadership of Kelly McGaha, who envisioned a hands-on space for students to observe plant life cycles in the three soil types covered in third-grade standards - sand, clay, and loam - the raised beds now have new plants.

Thanks to volunteer Lynn Bagwell, a retired home economics teacher, a student has been working on a sewing project in the Learning Log. Our volunteers who support students, teachers, and staff are a key to the positive learning at Pine Log which increases student success.

Thank you so much to Kona Ice of North Georgia for the donation of ten Dog Man books to the Learning Log, Kona Ice makes this yearly donation of the most popular books for elementary school students in support of our literacy goals.

Revised April lunch menu

The Killdeer nesting season is February through June in our area. Please be cautious on our campus whether you are on foot or in your car. As the Killdeer birds are the focus of the PBL for third through fifth grades, it's important to PLES to maintain a safe and respectful habitat for our feathered friends.

Our school now has a PebbleGo subscription available through October 2026. PebbleGo is a safe, kid‑friendly online database designed especially for early learners. Students can explore short, engaging articles, listen to read‑aloud audio, watch supporting videos, and discover a wide range of topics that build background knowledge and support research skills.
Students received a brief introduction to PebbleGo during each class’s second library visit in January. Your child may enjoy diving into animals, biographies, science, health, and social studies articles and can log on from home.
To log in from home, use the link below:

If your family enjoys optional enrichment activities, there is also a monthly PebbleGo challenge calendar filled with fun learning tasks. Students in third through fifth grades received a bookmark with login information, but if they need another one, ask Mrs. Hughes.
Please feel free to reach out to Beverly Hughes if you have any questions. We’re excited for our students to explore and enjoy this new resource!

Third-grade students recently added 3-D printed grid markers to the campus to improve the identification of Killdeer sightings for the upcoming nesting season that starts in February. Students used a grid overlay of the PLES campus to find locations and used 3-D markers that were designed in Tinkercad. This project is part of the Killdeer PBL.
