🌸🐝 Second Grade Scientists at Work! 🐞🌼

Our second graders were buzzing with excitement this week as they took part in the Great Southeast Pollinator Census, a citizen science project created by the University of Georgia. With clipboards in hand, they observed and counted pollinators like bees, butterflies, and beetles right in our school garden—just like real scientists!

This hands-on project gave students the chance to contribute valuable data toward understanding pollinator populations across the Southeast. Not only did they learn why pollinators are vital to food systems and ecosystems, but they also played a role in raising awareness and helping scientists track changes over time.

We’re so proud of our students for demonstrating curiosity, teamwork, and a love for nature. Way to go, second grade! 🌿✨

Please see Mrs. Elrod's letter about PreK transportation options.

4 months ago, White Elementary School
Parents/Guardians of 2025-2026 White Elementary School Pre-K students, White Elementary Pre-Kindergarten classrooms will be housed at Pine Log Elementary for the 2025-2026 school year. WES will serve as a potential transportation hub for students’ zone for White Elementary. As the principal, I wanted to provide clarity on transportation options to and from school. They are listed in detail below. Our top priority is your child’s safety. We assure you that we will have staff present to monitor pre-k students through these transitions. Two pre-kindergarten paraprofessionals will be available each day at WES to shuttle students to and from PLES. Please reach out to me if further explanation is needed. Morning Arrival Options: Option 1 *Car rider to Pine Log Elementary* Drop off begins at 7:15 am. The school day begins at 8:00am. Option 2 *Car rider to White Elementary* Drop off begins at 7:15am and will end for pre-k students at 7:30am. Students will proceed to a pre-k holding room from car rider drop off. The bus to PLES will depart at 7:45 am. Note: Arrivals after 7:30am will need to proceed to PLES for drop off. During 7:30-7:45, staff members will verify attendance and load the shuttle bus. Option 3 *Bus from house to White Elementary* This applies to students in the White Elementary School Zone. Students will be escorted to the pre-k holding area in the café from the bus. Students will remain in holding with other peers and a staff member until the bus to PLES is loaded at 7:45. Afternoon Dismissal Options: Option 1 *Car rider pick up at Pine Log Elementary* Dismissal begins at 2:30pm. Option 2 *Car rider pick up at White Elementary* Students will ride the bus from PLES to WES each afternoon. The bus will depart from PLES at 1:55pm and arrive at WES at approximately 2:15pm. Students will be escorted to the gym at that time for car rider dismissal. Dismissal begins at 2:30pm. Option 3 *Bus rider to house from White Elementary* This applies to students in the White Elementary School Zone. When students arrive at WES from PLES by bus, they will be placed on the appropriate bus to take them home. Option 4 *Pine Log Elementary After School Program* Students may stay at PLES for ASP. Please contact PLES front office for ASP paperwork. Option 5 *White Elementary After School Program* Students may stay in ASP at WES. Students will ride the bus from PLES to WES to stay in ASP. Please contact WES front office for ASP paperwork. Option 6 *Van rider from White Elementary* Students can sign up to be transported to Kids Stop or Tomorrow’s Child from WES. Please contact the daycare of choice to acquire attendance. Students will ride bus from PLES to WES in the afternoons and be escorted to van riders to be dismissed at 2:30pm. Due to the amount of transportation options and the age of pre-k students we recommend consistent daily transportation to avoid any confusion. Changes in transportation must be sent in writing to your child’s homeroom teacher. No emails or Dojo messages will be accepted. Again, if you need clarification or additional information on these transportation options, please do not hesitate to reach out. Thanks, Amanda Elrod Principal, White Elementary School
Kicking Off the New School Year at White Elementary:

We had an incredible start to the school year with our first back-to-school teacher meeting yesterday! The day began with a warm welcome and delicious homemade goodies- thank you to our very own Lauren Leon for helping make it special! Her baked goods were delicious!

We proudly welcomed our new staff members, celebrated summer events, reviewed our 24-25 data, school improvement goals and action steps for the upcoming year, and rolled out our Tier 1 campaign: Engaging Every Student Every Day- a mission we're deeply committed to each day.

One of the highlights of the day was reading "Have You Filled a Bucket Today?" by Carol McCloud as a reminder of the power of kindness and connection in our school community. We even joined hands to sing the "We are Bucket Fillers" song together-- such a joyful moment!

Teams also collaborated to create collective resumes that showcase the incredible talent and passion of our staff.
We're looking forward to an amazing year with the most amazing team. Excited to make 2025-2026 the best one yet!
