COLONES CARE: Have you ever heard of the Big Buddy Project?
Cass High School JROTC Battalion Commander Parker Dunn knocked on the doors of White Elementary School this fall and asked to start a program that would help students hone their reading skills. With a quick nod of approval, Parker and 10-12 JROTC "Buddies" have made it their mission to visit each Friday to read, practice sight words, and foster relationships with our WES Warriors!
What a positive impact these cadets are having on our youngest readers! We are blown away by the drive and selflessness of our Cass High JROTC program!

STEM CERTIFICATION: BIG WEEK for Mission Road Elementary students and staff! First, their groundbreaking ceremony. Then, they are named a District STEM Certified school! Way to create, collaborative, and innovate, MRES! Up next...State STEM Certification!

3D RENDERINGS: Take a closer look at the exterior and interior of our new MRES, complete with an amazing media center and cafetorium! The unique design and layout of this two-story school, which is filled with natural light, will be an asset to students and staff come July 2024!

WRITING A NEW CHAPTER IN MRES HISTORY: With hard hats and a ceremonial shovel turn, the Bartow County School System breaks ground on a new $30 million Mission Road Elementary School.
After 37 years, a new foundation will be laid, and MRES Principal Sherrie Hughes will be there to ensure the new 103,119-square-foot building is filled with murals, memories, and more academic advancements.
“I feel like a proud mom watching this exciting time in Mission Road Elementary School's history,” said Hughes.
During the monumental groundbreaking ceremony at the construction site, which is located on the west portion of the current property, students, staff, stakeholders, and local dignitaries celebrated the investment into our students’ future.
“It was a moment I have never experienced before,” said Bartow County School System Superintendent Dr. Phillip Page. “As we listened to the Mission Road Elementary School Chorus perform and then broke ground, a sense of pride washed over us all. We are so thankful for a school board and community that are committed to the educational needs of our children. Due to significant residential growth in this attendance zone, this new campus is needed.”
Site work for the new school, which is designed by CDH Partners and constructed by Carroll Daniel Construction, will be complete in July 2024.
Funded by Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST), the new two-story building will hold 48 instructional units and house up to 800 students. Staff and students will also enjoy natural light in all classrooms.
“Every year, students in the fifth grade Art Club pick a wall or area in the school to paint a mural,” said Hughes. “These murals are very special to us and bring back so many sweet memories. We have been talking to Tonsmeire Studios about a way we can take these memories with us to become a part of the new MRES.”
The existing MRES will be torn down after construction is complete and doors open at the new state-of-the-art facility.
“A strong positive relationship with multi-generational stakeholders helps make us special,” said Principal Hughes. “Breaking ground on a new building where we’ll continue that legacy is exciting! Former MRES Principal Nancy Summey is surely looking down on us, proud as can be.”

ON THE ROAD AGAIN: Cue the road trip music because our students are on another college tour! This time, students from Adairsville High School and Woodland High School's Magnet programs are visiting Vanderbilt University and Sewanee, The University of the South!
From tours to dining hall meals to an admissions activity called the GPA Game, these students are soaking up what these outstanding schools have to offer!

NEW: Announced just minutes ago, your 2022-2023 SYSTEM TEACHER OF THE YEAR IS FOURTH GRADE TAYLORSVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHER BEKAH ROLLEY! 🎉

IT'S OFFICIAL: Roll out the red carpet and shout from the rooftops; it’s Ms. Dot Day! Join us in celebrating the woman who is not only at the helm of the Bartow Education Foundation, but the woman who has taught and loved an infinite number of children in Bartow County over the past six decades!
Ms. Dot Frasier has been serving Bartow County students and staff for 64 years. Her professional titles have included teacher, assistant principal, principal, and Bartow Education Foundation Executive Director. At 87 years young, Ms. Dot still plays an integral role in the Teacher Grant, Teacher of the Year, and Retirement programs.
On October 18, 2021, a proclamation honoring Ms. Dot was signed and issued. It read in part, “The Bartow County Board of Education and Superintendent of the Bartow County School System do hereby honor Ms. Dot Frasier as the first Teacher of the Year in the Bartow County School System in the year nineteen sixty-nine. Each subsequent year on the date of the System Teacher of the Year banquet will be proclaimed as ‘Ms. Dot Day’ within the Bartow County School System.”
Before we recognize our 2022-2023 Teachers of the Year and System winner tonight at the Booth Western Art Museum, let’s take a few minutes to honor Ms. Dot and her legacy of love.
Bartow County School Board Member Anna Sullivan said it best. “Ms. Dot has never slowed down. She exemplifies a life calling that is powered purely by her great love of people, both big and small. We are a better community for her work, dedication, and love.”

ALL TREATS, NO TRICKS: More than 1,000 books were handed out by Bartow County School System employees last night at Adairsville's Halloween on the Square! That's what we call a sweet success story! 📙😄Glad to be able to do this with our L4 grant money!

CENTRAL OFFICE CELEBRATIONS: When you work in a school system and community like this, you have a lot to celebrate! And, if you know Superintendent Page, then you know he likes to celebrate the RIGHT WORK. In the Bartow County School System, the right work supports learning, collaboration, and results. That's what we value.
Today, we celebrate and honor Vicky Wade, an accounting specialist in our School Nutrition Department! Vicky is a dedicated and valued member of our family. She does her job very well, and we are certainly lucky to have her! Congratulations, Vicky! You make us all better!
