During last week’s professional learning Block Party, AHS teachers learned more about multimodal texts and participated in an interdisciplinary demonstration focused on eclipses. In the images, you can see them working to determine at what point the moon (a.k.a. a marble) can block out the sun (a.k.a. a beach ball).

This work is a part of our commitment to providing professional learning that explores impactful literacy strategies and promotes engaging Tier 1 instruction in every classroom.

🎉 Congratulations to our AHS Employee of the Month, Coach Tony Sellers! 🎉

Coach Sellers wears many hats at AHS, serving as our Science Department Chair, science teacher, and Magnet Intern Coordinator!

Coach Sellers is the definition of an “it can be done” kind of person! When he sees a problem, he’s already thinking of a solution. His positive attitude, willingness to help, and dedication to our school make him such a valuable part of the AHS family.

We are so thankful for all that Coach Sellers does for our students and staff! Please join us in congratulating him on this well-deserved recognition! 👏

AHS Geometry students recently participated in an engaging cross-curricular lesson that brought mathematics and art together through the study of tessellations. AHS geometry teachers collaborated with the visual arts teacher to design a project that challenged students to apply their understanding of rigid transformations and congruence while creating original works of art. Students explored translations, reflections, and rotations to develop unique tessellation designs, documented their thinking through the STEAM design process, and reflected on how mathematical concepts can be used to create visually appealing artwork. This lesson provided students with an authentic opportunity to see the connection between creativity and mathematics while strengthening both their problem-solving and artistic skills. We are proud of the collaboration and the impressive work our students produced!

Algebra 1 students in Mrs. Jones class recently developed a deeper understanding of distance-time graphs through real-world applications. Mrs. Jones, one of our Algebra 1 teachers, with the help of Mrs. McPhee, one of our Physics teachers, was able to design a learning experience that connected concepts of linear functions, domain and range, and graph interpretation with Physics concepts such as distance, speed, velocity, and motion over time. Students engaged in hands-on activities including a graph scavenger hunt, journaling through the STEAM design process, creating their own graph scenarios, and analyzing a distance-time graph. By combining mathematical reasoning with physical motion, students were able to see how graphing concepts learned in Algebra 1 can be applied to real-world situations studied in Physics, strengthening both content understanding and critical thinking skills.

This work aligns with our district priorities by enhancing high-quality Tier 1 instruction, investing in ongoing professional learning, and creating engaging classroom experiences that support improved student attendance and achievement.

Senior Jacob Anglin represented Adairsville FFA in the Area Tractor Operations CDE and brought home 3rd Place Overall!

This competition puts students’ agricultural knowledge AND equipment skills to the test. Jacob completed a written exam covering tractor safety, servicing, care, and maintenance; worked through problem-solving and troubleshooting scenarios; and completed a timed tractor-driving practicum.

For the driving portion, competitors had to safely operate the tractor, hook up a two-wheeled implement, navigate a tight course and 15-degree curve, back the implement into the designated shed area, unhook, and return the tractor to the finish — all while racing the clock and avoiding penalties.

We are SO proud of Jacob for putting his skills to work and finishing 3rd overall in Northwest Georgia! 💙💛
