Every school in the county decorated a tree at the Cartersville Public Library, and they’re having a contest. You can vote for the tree you like best by placing a donation in that school’s jar at the circulation desk. The Hamilton Crossing Tree, located in the Teen Center part of the library, has been decorated by our Third, Fourth, and Fifth graders. Fourth and Fifth graders learned repoussé, and our Third graders focused on symmetry and made a 3D ornament from paper. I love all the unique and individual designs, and there are no store-bought decorations. Our students did a great job!! Please take time over the season to stop by and see all the great art on the HCES tree as well as vote for your favorite.

Kona Ice and Hat Day on Friday, September 30. See attached flyer for Kona Ice prices. Hat Day is $1.00, and your child may wear a hat. Please try to have your student bring exact change. Also, if you have more than one child that attends HCES, please send money with each child. Each class goes at a different time; therefore, it is difficult to get the money divided so each child can purchase during their timeslot.

The 4th graders visited the Tellus Museum on September 21st and were able to participate in many fun and interactive activities. We stopped at the Planetarium, which gave us an in-depth look at our solar system and provided details about each of the planets and moons we’ve learned about in science this year. Additionally, students were able to view parts of rockets, space shuttles, airplanes, and other vehicles that paved the way for the 1969 Space Race, which brought Americans to the moon. Students also viewed an actual piece of moon rock and learn about the different ways that moon phases impact us here on Earth.
