This week we celebrated our students that scored a level 3 (proficient) and level 4 (distinguished) on the winter EOC's. We had a Papa Johns pizza and dessert party for over 200 students during wildcat period. We are so proud of our Wildcats that show EXCELLENCE in all they do, especially academically! Way to go!

National school Counselors Week Today we spotlight Dr. Boone Benton! Dr. Boone Benton is our counselor for students with last names starting with Q-Z. He is also our Lead Counselor! Dr. Benton handles all senior recognitions and graduation procedures, NCAA and NAIA clearinghouse, HOPE transcripts, and GA Virtual School enrollments. He also leads our crisis response whenever required. Dr. Benton came to us from Gwinnett County where he was named the 2021 Counselor of the Year and the First Runner-Up for the Georgia School Counselor of the Year. He received his doctorate in Counseling from the University of Georgia. He earned a master’s degree from Georgia State and graduated from Presbyterian College. He has valuable experience working with students hoping to enroll in competitive colleges as well as joining the military. Dr. Benton has been in the counseling field for over 30 years. He and his family bought a farm and enjoy caring for their goats, chickens, and donkey. He and his wife have two children in college and one in middle school.

National School Counselors Week On Thursday we spotlight Mrs. Kimberly Oertley! Mrs. Kimberly Oertley is our counselor for students with last names starting with F-K & Dual Enrollment students. She is our Dual Enrollment Coordinator, 504 Coordinator, and YouScience Assistant Coordinator. She also helps manage our counseling department's website and designs our graphics and promotions. This is Mrs. Oertley’s third year as a high school counselor. She graduated from University of North Georgia (BA) and University of West Georgia (M.Ed). Ms. Oertley is grateful for knowing she can make a difference in our students' lives. Outside of education, she is married to a wonderful husband and enjoys spending time on walks with her dog Rosie.

National School Counselor Week On Wednesday we spotlight Mrs. Wendy Mallis! Mrs. Wendy Mallis is our counselor for students with last names starting with L-P. She is also our Magnet Counselor, our SAT/ACT and PSAT Coordinator, our CAT PAWS sponsor and our Governor’s Honors Program contact. She graduated from Kennesaw State and Georgia State University and was the first person in her family to attend college, so she loves working with First-Generation Students. This is her second year at Woodland – she loves being an advocate for her students. Outside of school, her favorite thing to do is hang out with her orange cat named Sphinx.

It's National School Counselors Week! Mrs. Kathi Shedd is our school counselor for students with last names starting with A – E. She graduated from Pepperell High School in Lindale, Ga. Mrs. Shedd received her Bachelor of Science degree from Berry College, her Master’s degree in counseling from Jacksonville State University, and her Specialist degree in Administration from Lincoln Memorial University. Mrs. Shedd is entering her 36th year in education and first year in counseling. For 23 years, she was Woodland’s head cheerleader coach where they won five state championships! She works with the Whisper program and is our YouScience Assistant Coordinator. She can also help student athletes complete the paperwork for the NCAA or NAIA Clearinghouses to ensure college eligibility. Mrs. Shedd will tell you that her greatest accomplishment is her family. She has been married to her high school sweetheart Gary, for 38 years. They have three Woodland Graduates, Derrick, Brett, and Bryce.
