Once again, Bartow County received a grant to order school supplies for all students and most supplies that all students will need for the year were covered. These are the supplies that your child will need to bring to PLES on August 1:
Kindergarten: backpack, pencil box, hand sanitizer, two white t-shirts
First grade: backpack, pencil box, hand sanitizer
Second grade: pencil box
Third grade: headphones
Fourth grade: earbuds OR headphones, pencil, eraser caps.
A message from Mrs. Livingston, School Counselor
There is a Youth Health Fair including a school supply drive, mental wellness workshops, FREE Sports Physicals, as well as games & prizes on Saturday, July 20 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. hosted by the West Rome Boys & Girls Club located at 100 Gadson St., Rome, GA 30165.
The meal application helps our school and county receive federal funding such as the Title I grant which provides money for many academic programs at PLES. Even if your child is not going to receive free or discounted meals, please complete the application online.

Pine Log Open House is July 30th at the following times:
10:30-11:30- Last names A-K
1:30-2:30- Last names L-Z
5:00-6:00- anyone unable to attend earlier session
Please note that we will not unlock the doors until the exact time as we will be busy getting ready to greet you all and doing last minute preparations.
If you have children with different last names, you only have to attend one meeting, just come at the time based on the last name of the oldest child. We have discovered that breaking it into 3 segments alleviates overcrowding and allows more time for you to visit with your new teacher and get bus routes, After School Care paperwork, school lunch information, etc.

Some great PLES parents took time on Tuesday to help first-grade students create personalized towels. Each student was given a white towel, masking tape to spell their name, and tie dye paint to spray and create a fun and useful keepsake. Our Pine Log families and community sponsors make such a difference for student growth and we are so thankful for the support.

It's teacher appreciation week and since every PLES contributes to the education of our students, we are celebrating all PLES employees.
PLES PTCO treated us to a yogurt bar on Monday and sweet treats on Tuesday.
This morning, we received the wonderful surprise of muffins, cookies, and turnovers gifted to the PLES staff from Family Savings Credit Union.
Later today, PTCO is treating the PLES staff to refreshing specialty lemonades.
Thank you to the students and families who are sending words of thanks and presents of appreciation to our educators this week and throughout the year.

for filling a 5-gallon bucket with coffee grounds that Kindergarten added to our compost bin.
The soil that is created in the compost bin will be added to the raised garden bed and greenhouse for Kindergarten to study as part of their life cycles standards.

The Stock Your Shelf gently used book sale is an opportunity for students to purchase books to read over the summer break to prevent Summer Slide (loss of achievement gains).
Book donations are desperately needed! Feel free to send any book donations for students in PreK-grade 6 to Beverly Hughes in the Learning Log.

Elementary and Secondary School: Kindergarten - 8th

Location: All Schools (except MRES, those students will be at EHES due to construction)
Lunch and transportation provided.
Second-grade students participated in a field trip to the Bartow County Recycling Center and the Bartow County Landfill. At one point, the classes were standing on 100 feet of compounded trash. Students were able to see common household items including plastic cutlery and lunch trays like the ones that are used at PLES. This field trip was part of the year-long focus on recycling.
We have scheduled our Awards Day. Please read below for times/dates:
5th Grade: Friday, May 17th, DARE Graduation at 9:00 a.m. 5th Grade will have their Awards Ceremony immediately after DARE Graduation. We plan to be done by 10:45, at the latest that, day.
Pre-K will have their Graduation on Tuesday, May 21st at 9:00
Other Grades will be on Wednesday, May 22nd:

Ahoy! The PLES Chorus is sailing the high seas on a musical adventure. Be sure to see your favorite Pine Log performers on April 19 at 6 p.m. in the PLES cafeteria. It's sure to be a treasure!
Mrs. Jensen's second-grade class visited the Learning Log today to read books with friends and make a model of the solar eclipse using LEGOs.
We're making progress on our Killdeer sanctuary.
We're sending a special thank you to K. M. Davis Contracting, who removed the top layer of earth for our bird sanctuary near the soccer field.
We are searching for more community partners to donate gravel, sand, and wood chips to complete this sanctuary.

Today is our third and final STEM Showcase of the 2023-2024 school year. Our visitors will start the tour in the Learning Log where they will get information about our STEM journey from the STEMbassadors (student representatives). Then, our visitors will tour classrooms to take note of all the great STEM learning that is taking place at PLES.
