Good Morning WMS Family: We want to inform you that we will be conducting our scheduled, state-mandated lockdown drill this morning, September 20th, 2024, to ensure our preparedness in case of an emergency. Lockdown drills are crucial for ensuring the safety and security of students and staff. They prepare all staff members, law enforcement, and students for responding swiftly and effectively in the event of an emergency, such as a threat on campus. By practicing lockdown procedures, students and staff become familiar with the steps to take, which helps reduce panic and confusion during an actual emergency. These drills also allow us to identify and address any gaps in our procedures, ensuring that our response is as effective and efficient as possible. Ultimately, lockdown drills are an essential part of maintaining a safe learning environment here at WMS. It is crucial that you have a discussion with your child about the purpose of the drill and reassure them that it is a practice for their safety. Thank you for your support and cooperation! WMS Parents: Thank you for entrusting us with your student and working with us to ensure a secure and supportive learning environment for all. It is essential for the academic success of our school community. As you know, we maintain high safety standards. As another proactive measure to mitigate future disruptions to our learning environment, we are informing you of a new smartphone policy. Students who are charged by law enforcement for their role in the creation or distribution of an online threat to student safety will lose their privilege of bringing a smartphone to any Bartow County school facility, event, or bus for up to one calendar year from the date of the incident. Students affected may possess non-smartphones that have no access to internet or social media platforms. Thank you for your attention to this matter as we continuously impress upon our students and families the importance of school safety and security. Sincerely, Michael Blankenship Principal
